A Bit About Amanda:
Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about me, what I do , the things I create and why I love education.
The 2018-2019 school marks my 13th year in education, and with every year I grow a little more. Each year I try to challenge myself, and this site is my leap into integrating global technology with my thoughts, creations and resources in education.
I began my journey in education at Ball State University, graduating with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education in 2006. After graduation I took a leap of faith and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and began my career as a 4th grade teacher at Mallard Creek Elementary. My 5 years at Mallard Creek represented drive and growth. I learned about myself as an educator, I learned about my potential as a leader, and I had mentors that consistently pushed me to the next level. In 2009 I completed my first masters program, also from Ball State, in Elementary Education with a Reading Specialist license. I have always had a passion for reading, and expanding that into a specialized area led to my desire to become a Literacy Coach for students and teachers alike. After completing my masters, and a little push from colleagues and administration I embarked on completing the requirements for National Board Certification. The NBCT Certification process, without a doubt, was one of the most rewarding and reflective processes I've been through. I developed an increased ability to think outside the box, create engaging rigorous lessons and become a reflective practitioner. Becoming certified in 2010 was a very proud moment for me, I value the process and continue to encourage teachers to explore becoming certified. In 2011 I began exploring opportunities to advance professionally, I accepted a position at John Motley Moorehead STEM Academy, a K-7 STEM school as a Literacy and Math Facilitator. Although I was only at Moorehead for a short time, it was an extremely valuable learning experience, learning how to understand and balance the bubble between teacher and administrator. I will always value the 5 1/2 years I lived in Charlotte, but always missed family and home. January 2012 I accepted a position for the Greenfield-Central School Corporation as a K-6 Literacy Coach between 3 buildings. The close knit community of Greenfield has been the place where I have continued to grow as a leader. I've learned the impact an administrator can have on a building and the importance of building a positive climate and culture for staff, students and parents. December 2013 marked the completion of my second Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision. After coaching for 5 years I moved into the Dean of Students role at J.B. Stephens Elementary, a pre-k-3 building that taught me the foundations of administration, the importance of communication and sparked a love for special education and positive behavior interventions. After two years as dean, a position in a school with staff and students I loved dearly, I was presented with the opportunity to combine by administrative and coaching roles into a district level dean position as the PBIS coordinator, along with coordinating our districts Title 1 and ELL programs. I love education and all of the possibilities it presents, and I continue to strive to have a larger impact in the world of education and to challenge myself.
